I'm working with a Corsair 4000D Airflow case and I'm looking to upgrade my CPU cooler since my current one, the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE, is causing my CPU to hit 80°C during certain games. I've done some digging and it seems like my cooler is still considered one of the best options out there, especially for being four years old. I just can't justify shelling out over $100 for something that's only slightly better. I'm really hoping to find something more effective at a reasonable price. Also, please don't suggest three-fan liquid coolers; my large GPU blocks them from fitting in the front of the case. Any recommendations?

Before diving into replacements, have you tried reapplying thermal paste? It can really help! Also, double-check your case fan setup for optimal airflow since sometimes minor tweaks can make a difference. There aren’t many air coolers that outperform what you have, but it’s worth a look!
You might check out some options like the Peerless Assassin 140 or newer models of Thermalright coolers like the Phantom Spirit Evo. If you’re up for a challenge, the Noctua NH D15 G2 is top-tier, but it’s on the pricier side. Hardware Canucks has some reviews you could look at!
80°C isn’t the end of the world, as long as the fan noise isn’t bothering you. It would be helpful to know which CPU you’re using for more tailored cooling suggestions!
Good point! I should’ve mentioned it; it's a Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
Another route could be just upgrading your fans. Replacing them with higher-end options like Phanteks T30 fans can improve airflow significantly. Also, consider adjusting your fan configuration for better air pressure—such tweaks can lower your temperatures effectively without a full cooler swap!
Check out options like the Jiushark JF800 if you can find one in the US, or even the Royal Praetor 130. Just keep in mind some of these might have quality control issues based on what reviewers experienced. There are quite a few good alternatives!
I appreciate the suggestions! I’ll dig deeper into the Thermalrights you mentioned, though I feel Noctua’s price isn’t worth it for the performance.
I’ve actually done that already, unfortunately.
