Hey everyone! I recently found my brother's old phone and I'm curious. If I swap in a new SIM card, is there any way to keep the old phone number that was associated with that phone, or will I get assigned a new number? Thanks for your help!

It really depends on your carrier. You can ask your old carrier for a porting code and then give that to your new carrier to try and keep your number. Just make sure to request it from both sides!

Your phone number is linked to the SIM card, not the phone itself. So if you get a new SIM, you’re likely to get a new number unless you take steps to transfer the old one.

Since you mentioned it’s been a while since your brother used the phone, the number might already be gone if he didn't keep paying for the service. It’s worth checking, though!

Yeah, he hasn’t used it in like 5 years. Does that mean it’s probably been reassigned?
