When Should I Upgrade My PC Components?

I'm looking ahead to potentially upgrading my PC in the next year or two. Right now, I've got a solid setup with an ASUS Tuf 4080 Super, 64 GB of RAM, an AMD 7950X3D processor, a 2 TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, a Peerless Assassin 120 CPU cooler, and a Corsair 7000D case. You can check my PC part picker list here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TnRhrM.

My main concerns are about swapping my current CPU for a 9950X3D and changing my CPU cooler to the Noctua NH-D15 G2. I'm particularly worried that my RAM might interfere with this cooler when I use my chosen MSI motherboard. As I'm somewhat of a newbie in PC building and this will be my second build, I'd appreciate any advice!

Honestly, you're not in a bad spot with your current setup! Upgrading might not be necessary just yet as there's not much left to improve on. If you really want a new cooler, consider water cooling options, though I get hesitations about reliability.

I understand the hesitation with water cooling! I'm more comfortable with air cooling too, mainly because I worry about leaks.

True, your current setup should be good for years, especially if you're gaming at 4K with solid frame rates!

Your build seems pretty solid! Lots of folks upgrade out of habit, but with your parts, you could easily last several years before needing to swap things out.

Really? I thought parts should be replaced every few years, especially for gaming. I want to run Cities: Skylines at max settings without any performance drops.

I think you’ll be fine for general use until truly powerful components become more mainstream and affordable.
