Why Does My BIOS Only Recognize 16GB of RAM When I’ve Installed 32GB?

Hey everyone! My BIOS is only showing 16GB of RAM, even though I have two 16GB sticks installed. This setup worked fine at first, and it recognized the full 32GB until I recently installed a new SSD. Any tips on how to troubleshoot this?

That’s strange! Make sure both sticks are the same brand and model, as mismatched RAM can sometimes cause issues. Also, confirm they're properly seated in the right slots. If everything checks out and it still shows 16GB, you might need to check if one stick is faulty by testing them individually.

Absolutely, they worked together fine before. I’ll check the slots again.

It sounds like there might be an issue with how the RAM is seated or the slots you're using. First, try reseating both RAM sticks to make sure they’re firmly in place. Also, check that they’re in the right slots, which is usually A2 and B2. If they’re installed correctly and it’s still showing 16GB, you might have a faulty stick or a dead memory channel. It helps to test each stick one at a time in different slots to pinpoint the problem.

Yeah, it definitely worked when I first built the PC. I suspect something went wrong when I added the SSD.
