I really need help recovering some lost dissertation files in Word that I know I saved. After an unexpected hospital stay that lasted two weeks, I came home to find my dissertation files missing, despite saving them to both my local folder and OneDrive. I've double-checked both places, but there's no sign of my work. I was nearly halfway through my dissertation before I had to go to the hospital, and I can't afford to start over. I don't have Time Machine, but I managed to recover a previous version using Terminal before and would love to get any guidance on how to do that again. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Have you checked OneDrive online? Sometimes files are hidden there, and you might have an older version saved. It’s worth a look!

I checked, but it doesn’t show up there. Even tried restoring my OneDrive, but it acts like the files never existed.

Try going to Word and then to Open > Recent Files to see if your dissertation shows up there. Sometimes, it can be hidden in the recent list!

Unfortunately, it isn’t showing up there either. It’s so frustrating!

It could be worth searching through Word's temporary files. If you look in the right places, you might find unsaved documents. Check out Microsoft's guide on recovering lost or unsaved docs—it has some helpful tips!
