Which Linux Distro Should I Choose for AI/ML and Customization?

I'm transitioning from Windows to Linux, primarily for AI and ML development, programming, and general productivity. I'm planning to dual boot with Windows for specific applications and gaming. I'm really excited about the customization possibilities in Linux and would love to incorporate features like a voice-activated AI assistant to enhance my workflow. I've heard a lot about Arch being great for customization, but as a Linux newbie, I'm concerned about managing system updates and potential breakages. I've also come across Kubuntu, which seems lightweight and custom-friendly with a Windows-like experience. However, I've read that KDE Plasma distros may not have as much support as GNOME ones, and this has me feeling stuck. I've done my research, but I can't seem to settle on a distro. Can anyone share their thoughts on this?

Most distros can serve your purpose just fine, but you want something stable. Since you're torn between KDE and GNOME, why not try both? Use a few USB drives to create live versions, allowing you to test each one without making any permanent decisions. This way, you can experience both environments and see what suits you best!

Kubuntu is a good choice, especially since you want something stable and user-friendly. I started with Debian and Red Hat, but sticking with Kubuntu was a no-brainer for me. Just be aware that you might want to remove the snap daemon to keep things clean while installing apps.

Just remember, it's all about what feels right for you! Focus on one distro, get comfortable, and take your time before making changes. Migration might come naturally when you're more familiar with the system.

I'd say go for Kubuntu! The idea that KDE distros lack support compared to GNOME is a myth. If you like the look and feel of KDE, you'll be fine sticking with it. Kubuntu offers a solid balance between performance and customization, making it a great starting point for your needs.

Don’t get too caught up in which has more support. The beauty of Linux is its flexibility. You can install KDE on any Ubuntu-based distro if you change your mind later. Kubuntu's just Ubuntu with KDE out of the box, so you're getting a great deal either way.
