Why is My 2.5 GbE Ethernet Port Only Showing 1 Gbps in Task Manager?

I recently built a PC using the ASRock X670E Pro RS Motherboard, which features a Realtek 2.5G LAN port. However, after upgrading my internet plan, Task Manager shows my download speed maxing out at around 953.1 Mbps. I'm wondering if there's a setting I need to enable to unlock the full potential of the LAN port, or if it's just a quirk with how the speed is measured. Could this mean that I'm only getting a maximum of 1 Gbps download from my internet provider? I want to make sure I'm not missing anything before I accept this limit.

Also, do you have a modem and router combo that supports 2.5 Gb speeds? Sometimes, the installer might say it can support that speed, but you gotta double-check the specs to be sure.

The installer did say it's up to 2.5 Gb, but I guess I’ll need to dig into that. It's confusing when Task Manager shows 100% because that makes it seem like I should be getting more!

First off, check if your router and modem are set up to handle speeds above 1 Gbps. Just because you have a 2 Gbps internet plan doesn't mean your whole setup supports it. Are you also using the right cabling? Cat6 is the recommended standard for 2.5 Gbps.

Good point! If the router’s port isn't rated for over 1 Gbps, then that could definitely throttle your speeds. Make sure to verify those specs.

Yeah, even if your internet plan is for 2 Gbps, your infrastructure might not support that speed. If you're on fiber, check the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and see if it has ports rated for more than 1 Gbps. Using Cat5e or Cat6 cabling is key too!

Exactly! No need to stress too much if you find out the router is the bottleneck. Might be time for an upgrade!
