Is My CPU Causing a Bottleneck in Gaming?

I'm currently playing games like Call of Duty and other AAA titles such as Far Cry with a setup that includes a 5060 Ti GPU, 16GB of RAM, and a Ryzen 7 5700 CPU. I've noticed that both my CPU and GPU utilization are pretty much equal during gameplay, but my CPU usage sometimes spikes into the 90s. I'm worried I might be facing a bottleneck issue. I'm considering upgrading to an AM5 Ryzen 5 9600X and adding another 32GB of DDR5 RAM along with a new motherboard, but the total cost would be around $500. Before I make this investment, I'd like to get some confirmation on whether my CPU is genuinely the bottleneck. By the way, I usually game at 1080p.

You might want to consider swapping your CPU for a Ryzen 7 5700X3D instead of going for the 9600X. There's really no need to overhaul your entire rig for just a slight performance boost.

Exactly! The 9600X isn't significantly faster than the 5700X3D, so it wouldn’t be worth the extra cash.

Are you satisfied with your current gaming experience? If you're mostly happy with how things are running, it might not be worth stressing over. Sure, there could be a slight bottleneck, but if you’re enjoying your games, hold off on spending money unless you really want an upgrade.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! I really appreciate it.

It's interesting because CPUs generally work harder at lower resolutions. You might want to try bumping up to 2K resolution and see if that makes a difference in performance.

That's true to some extent. Higher resolutions require rendering more pixels, which can actually lead to a higher CPU demand depending on the game.
