ASUS motherboards often cost more than comparable models from MSI, Gigabyte, or ASRock. While ASUS has a reputation for polished BIOS software, attractive designs, and feature-rich premium boards, its customer support and warranty handling are frequently criticized. Is the extra price actually buying better build quality, components, reliability, cooling, or useful features, or should motherboards be judged entirely by their individual model and specifications?

ASUS generally has a good BIOS interface and its higher-end boards can be very stable, but the premium is often for features, aesthetics, and branding rather than universally superior hardware. TUF is usually a reasonable value line, while ROG boards can become expensive quickly. Similar alternatives from MSI, Gigabyte, or ASRock may offer the same capabilities for less.
Judge the exact model, not the logo on the heatsink. Every manufacturer has budget, mid-range, and flagship boards, and the quality can vary significantly between them. Compare the VRM design, cooling, rear I/O, expansion slots, networking, BIOS features, and independent testing. ASUS may include more accessories or have nicer packaging, but that does not automatically make the board better.
There are clear differences between tiers. Entry-level boards may use weaker power delivery, simpler cooling, fewer high-speed ports, and thinner PCB designs. More expensive boards tend to improve those areas, but the same pattern applies across all major brands. A well-reviewed mid-range board from another manufacturer can easily outperform an overpriced ASUS model.
Reliability is hard to predict from launch reviews alone, since long-term firmware, networking, audio, and warranty experiences matter too. ASUS boards can run for years without trouble, but every brand has failures and support complaints. I would pay extra only for a specific feature or layout I actually need, not simply because the board carries an ASUS or premium gaming label.

That is the main takeaway for me too: a board being expensive or having more power phases does not automatically mean it runs cooler or lasts longer. Real testing of the specific model matters more.
