I'm in the United States and am planning my first custom PC build. My current hand-me-down prebuilt is several years old and has a Ryzen 5 2400G, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a GTX 1650 SUPER. I want to build a high-end gaming system that can target at least 60 FPS at 4K in modern games, without overclocking. My budget is under $5,000, although I would prefer not to spend more than necessary. So far, I'm considering a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, an X870 or X870E motherboard, 32GB of DDR5-6400 CL36 memory, a 4TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD, an RTX 5080, and a Corsair Frame 4500X case. I'm still choosing the CPU cooler, case fans, and power supply. Are these parts well balanced, or am I paying for features that won't improve gaming performance?

Don't leave the power supply as an afterthought. Choose a reputable ATX 3.1 unit with enough capacity and the appropriate native GPU power connector. An excellent 850W unit may be sufficient, while a quality 1000W model gives more headroom. Avoid selecting a cheap unit just because it has a high wattage rating.
For gaming, you probably don't need an expensive X870E motherboard. A good B850 board in the $150–$200 range should provide essentially the same gaming performance unless you specifically need extra expansion lanes, USB connectivity, or other premium features. The 9800X3D and RTX 5080 should make a very capable 4K system, and the complete build can likely come in well under $3,000. Spending closer to $5,000 would mostly buy extra storage, lighting, premium fans, or aesthetics rather than more gaming performance.
A similarly equipped build with the 9800X3D, RTX 5080, 4TB of PCIe 4.0 storage, a quality air cooler, matching fans, and a 1000W power supply can cost around $2,900. The rest is mainly personal preference and appearance.
The 9800X3D is relatively efficient, so a quality dual-tower air cooler should be enough. A liquid cooler is optional and is mostly useful for aesthetics or reducing noise if you choose a good model. Case fans also don't need to be expensive; just make sure the case has a sensible front-to-back or bottom-to-top airflow setup.
For AM5, DDR5-6000 with tighter timings such as CL30 is generally the sensible target. A 6400 MT/s kit may work, but you may end up running it at 6000 for better stability, so the faster-rated kit is not necessarily worthwhile. Likewise, a PCIe 5.0 SSD won't noticeably improve game performance compared with a good PCIe 4.0 drive. Put the money toward capacity, reliability, and endurance instead.

Reliable Gold-rated models from established manufacturers are a good place to start, but check independent reviews for the exact model rather than relying only on the brand name.
