ASUS VivoBook Powers On but Shows a Black Screen

My five-year-old ASUS VivoBook X409UA powers on, but the display remains completely black. The keyboard lights up and the fan runs. It has an Intel Core i3-7020U, 12 GB of RAM, BIOS version X409UA.302 from January 2020, and runs Windows 11. Reconnecting the battery sometimes makes it work temporarily, but after sitting for 15–30 minutes it shuts down and the black-screen problem returns. I don't currently have an external monitor available for testing. What could be causing this, and what should I check next?

While the laptop is powered on, press Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock and see whether the indicator light changes. If the light responds, the system may have completed its basic startup checks and could be running despite the failed display. That would point more toward the screen, display cable, backlight, or graphics output. If the indicators do not respond, the laptop may not be completing startup and a technician may need to inspect it.

That makes sense. Since the laptop is clearly receiving power, the battery itself may not be the main issue. It could be a display problem or a failure during boot.
