I have a Samsung 9100 Pro M.2 NVMe SSD installed in a computer that hasn't been powered on for nearly two years. Could leaving it unused for that long reduce the drive's lifespan or cause it to fail? I've heard that unpowered flash storage can eventually lose data or suffer from "data rot," but I'm unsure how much that applies to modern TLC-based NVMe drives. Should I replace the SSD before using the computer, or is it more sensible to test it first?

The SSD itself probably hasn’t been harmed simply by sitting unused. The bigger concern is whether some stored data has degraded, since NAND cells slowly lose their charge when unpowered. Two years at normal room temperature is not an automatic failure, especially for a modern TLC drive, but you should treat important files cautiously and make a backup before relying on them.
