I had my Acer Aspire 3 A315-56 repaired after one of its hinges broke. When I turned it on afterward, the D: drive was missing. I used it for game installations, downloads, and save files, so I'm worried the data may be inaccessible and that I'll need to reinstall everything on the C: drive. The drive still appears to be physically inside the laptop. I checked Disk Management, but there was no missing partition or unassigned drive letter, and Device Manager showed no obvious warning icons. I also opened the back panel and found a loose ribbon cable connected near the drive. I reseated it and secured the small locking lever. What else should I check?

If the drive is completely absent from Disk Management, this is probably not just a missing drive letter. The storage device may not be making proper contact, or the cable, connector, or drive itself may have been damaged during the hinge repair. Since the problem appeared immediately after the repair, take it back to the repair shop and ask them to verify that the drive is detected in the BIOS/UEFI and that the cable is fully secured. Avoid initializing or formatting anything if the data is important.
Start with Disk Management and check whether the missing storage appears without a drive letter. If it does, right-click it and assign D: again. Since you’re not seeing another partition or disk there, check Device Manager for storage-controller or disk errors as well. If the drive is a separate physical disk, the repair may have left its cable or connector loose, so inspect the drive connection carefully or have the repair shop check it.

The fact that the drive is present inside the laptop doesn’t guarantee that it’s electrically connected. A ribbon cable can look seated while the locking tab isn’t clamping it correctly, so the connector should be inspected closely.
