I'm planning my first-ever PC build for gaming and general use. I'll mainly be playing at 1440p, and my total budget is roughly $2,200–$2,500 in the United States, not including a desk, keyboard, or mouse. I originally selected a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Thermalright Phantom Spirit cooler, MSI B850 motherboard, 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a 2TB NVMe SSD, a Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB, a Lian Li LANCOOL 216 case, and an 850W Gold-rated power supply. The parts appear compatible, but I'm wondering whether the build is balanced and whether I should assemble it myself or buy a prebuilt system from a major retailer. Any advice on improving the parts list or deciding between building and buying would be appreciated.

Building it yourself is reasonable for a first-time builder as long as you take your time and follow a current assembly guide. Check the motherboard manual, install the CPU and RAM carefully, verify the power connections, and test the system before managing the cables. A prebuilt is more convenient and gives you one support contact, but it may use weaker or less upgrade-friendly parts. Compare the exact CPU, GPU, power supply, memory, and motherboard rather than judging only by the headline specifications.
With that budget, you should be able to move up to a Radeon RX 9070 XT. That would be a much stronger choice for 1440p gaming than the RX 9060 XT, while still keeping the rest of the system within your target range.
The build is compatible, but the budget can be allocated more effectively. Keep the Ryzen 7 9800X3D if you want a high-end gaming CPU, then use a less expensive B850 motherboard, DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, and a reasonably priced 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. The SN850X is good, but gaming generally won’t feel much different with a cheaper quality drive. Put those savings toward an RX 9070 XT, which can provide a substantial uplift at 1440p. An 850W ATX 3.x Gold power supply is plenty, and a cheaper airflow-focused case can work just as well as the LANCOOL 216. If you purchase Windows separately, choose a retail license rather than an OEM license for better transferability.

Would you say the performance difference is large enough to justify the extra cost? I’ll be gaming at 1440p for now, but I may upgrade further in the future.
