How can I align my GPU with the case without damaging the PCIe slot?

The screw holes on my graphics card's bracket do not line up with the case holes. I can force the card into position and screw it down, but the computer crashes while gaming afterward. If I leave the bracket unscrewed, the system works normally. It seems like the GPU needs to move slightly sideways, but I'm worried that shifting it could prevent the card from making proper contact with the PCIe slot. What is the safest way to fix the alignment?

Forcing the GPU into position can put stress on the PCIe slot and may explain the crashes. One person had a similar issue where the system appeared stable until gaming, and correcting the mounting pressure resolved it. Make sure the card is fully seated, the rear bracket is not pulling it out of alignment, and the screws are only snug rather than overtightened.

Check whether part of the case or a removable piece above the expansion slots is blocking the graphics card bracket. Removing or repositioning that piece may give the card enough room to line up without forcing it sideways.

Try loosening the motherboard mounting screws slightly, then gently shift the board so the GPU bracket lines up with the case. Retighten the motherboard screws afterward and reinstall the card. A tiny amount of resistance during alignment can be normal, but do not use enough force to bend the card, motherboard, or PCIe slot.

I’ll try adjusting the motherboard alignment carefully before doing anything more drastic.
