How can I control when StandBy turns off, and can it work upright?

I have an iPhone 15 Plus running iOS 26.6. When I charge it sideways in StandBy mode, the display eventually turns black. Is there a setting to change how long the StandBy screen stays visible? Also, can StandBy be used while the phone is charging in a vertical or otherwise non-horizontal position?

Go to Settings > StandBy > Display. Depending on the options shown on your phone, you can set the display to turn off automatically, stay on for a while, or remain on continuously. StandBy still requires the iPhone to be locked, connected to power, and positioned sideways on a stable surface.

That clears up the screen timeout part. I was hoping there might also be a way to use the same display while the phone is upright.

StandBy is intentionally limited to a sideways charging setup. Plugging the phone in while it is upright, or simply holding it sideways without a suitable stand, will not activate the full StandBy interface. For upright charging, you would need to use the regular Lock Screen and its widgets instead.
