I'm trying to install Apex Legends, but Windows says there isn't enough free storage. I checked my drive and found that Counter-Strike 2 uses around 70 GB, while Roblox and CS2 are the only games installed. Somehow, roughly 400 GB is being used elsewhere. I don't have many personal photos or videos, and I'm not sure which files are safe to remove. I tried deleting a few things with help from an AI assistant, but I still haven't identified what is consuming most of the space. What tools or Windows settings can I use to locate the largest files and clean them up safely?

WinDirStat is another useful option for analyzing the drive. It shows the folder structure and file sizes in a visual way, so you can see whether the space is being used by game files, downloads, backups, or something else. Check the drive or partition where Windows and your games are installed.
Windows’ built-in storage view is a good first step: open Settings, go to System, then Storage. It should separate usage into apps, temporary files, system files, and other categories. Also check whether Windows has created unusually large backups or restore data, since those can sometimes consume a surprising amount of space.
Try WizTree. It scans the drive quickly and gives you a visual breakdown of which folders and files are using the most space. Once you find the largest items, check what they are before deleting anything—avoid removing Windows or program files unless you know exactly what they do.
Take a look inside the AppData folders as well. Some programs leave behind caches, temporary data, or files from apps that were already uninstalled. Be careful, though: AppData contains files that active programs need, so it’s safer to remove only clearly labeled cache or temporary folders and use the program’s own uninstall or cleanup options when possible.
