How can I move from beginner Python to building real projects?

I'm just starting to learn programming and currently know a little Python. I'd like to reach an intermediate level where I can build useful projects instead of only following tutorials. I'm also open to learning another language if it would be beneficial. What's the best way to improve consistently, and which courses, websites, video series, or apps are worth using? I've heard good things about CS50—especially its Python course—so I'd also like to know what to expect from it and whether there are other strong recommendations.

AI tools can help explain errors, organize study topics, and turn educational material into a learning checklist, but they shouldn’t replace your own practice. Use them as a patient tutor, then write and debug the code yourself so you build problem-solving skills.

Pick a project you genuinely want to build and learn whatever you need along the way. It could be a game editor, a small social-media-style app, a robot project, or anything else that interests you. Projects are usually what help you move beyond the beginner stage; watching more tutorials by itself often isn’t enough.

If you want a more structured introduction to programming concepts, How to Design Programs is worth working through. If that feels too basic, continue with Python and focus on writing programs regularly. Later, C can be useful for understanding how Python works internally, including topics related to CPython and modules such as ctypes.
