I accidentally uninstalled my main network driver, expecting Windows to restore it after a restart, but it never came back. I have the driver installer saved on the computer, but launching it produces an error saying: "Error opening file for writing: C:UsersnameAppDataLocalTemp654_w11.28.20.1224mbdriveCPSetup.exe." Opening CPSetup.exe directly results in another message: "An error (-5001 : 0x8007002) has occurred while running the setup." That path is inside Windows’ temporary folder, so the installer may be unpacking files there and failing to write or access them. Try copying the full installer to a simple location such as C:Drivers or your desktop, then right-click it and choose “Run as administrator.” If it still fails, clear the contents of the Windows Temp folder, restart the computer, and run a freshly downloaded copy of the correct driver installer. Make sure it matches your exact network adapter and Windows version.
If the installer cannot run, you can often install the driver manually through Device Manager. Download the driver on another device if necessary, transfer it with a USB drive, extract the files, then open Device Manager, find the network adapter or unknown device, and select Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers. Point it to the extracted driver folder and include its subfolders.
