I've followed a lot of customization tutorials and guides, but I still can't get my desktop to look the way I want. I installed Arch with KDE mainly because I wanted to personalize it, and now I'm feeling stuck and embarrassed that I haven't made much progress. I'm open to any style, although a monochrome look sounds appealing. What are some simple, practical changes or a good starting point for making KDE look polished?

You can get a nice result without switching to a window manager. Try a floating or slightly transparent panel, a clean wallpaper, a matching icon theme, and a simple application launcher. KDE is designed to make these changes fairly easy, so you usually don’t need to edit configuration files or assemble separate programs for basic customization.
There’s no required aesthetic and you don’t need an elaborate setup for it to count as customization. Start with the wallpaper, panel layout, colors, and icons, then stop when the desktop feels comfortable. The point is to make the system pleasant to use, not to spend all your time admiring the desktop.
Start small instead of trying to copy an entire setup at once. KDE’s settings include a built-in way to browse and install themes, icons, cursors, wallpapers, and other visual components. Pick a wallpaper and build around it, then adjust the panel, colors, icons, and window decorations one at a time.
The distribution you use doesn’t determine how your desktop has to look. KDE can be customized on many Linux systems, so focus on learning what each setting does rather than chasing someone else’s screenshot. A practical approach is to make one change, use the computer for a while, and keep only the changes that improve your workflow.
