How can I stop Microsoft GameInput from crashing my PC?

Microsoft GameInput seems to be involved in a daily computer crash. Whenever I uninstall it, the component eventually updates, reconfigures, or reinstalls itself, and the system crashes again around the same time. Reliability Monitor shows GameInput activity immediately before each failure, while the crashes stop temporarily when it is removed. Is there a safe way to prevent it from reinstalling, or a better way to confirm whether it is actually the root cause?

GameInput is a Windows component and reinstalling it can be expected behavior, so forcibly removing it may create additional problems. The timing could mean it is involved, but it does not prove that it is the underlying cause. Check the Reliability Monitor details, Event Viewer, crash logs, and any related driver or application errors for the actual faulting module. Updating Windows, chipset and graphics drivers, and affected game or controller software may also help.

I understand that the reinstall may be intentional, but it happens immediately before every crash in the Reliability Monitor, and removing it stops the crashes for a while. I’m trying to determine whether that pattern points to a broken installation or a conflict with another driver.

Rather than trying to block the reinstall permanently, test the connection systematically. Record the exact crash code and faulting component, then reinstall or repair GameInput through Windows Update and check for corrupted system files with the System File Checker and DISM. Also disconnect controllers and disable related overlays or background gaming software temporarily, since a device or driver conflict can make GameInput look like the cause.
