I'm having trouble updating the BIOS on my MSI B550-A PRO motherboard. My current BIOS/build date is 04/12/21. I downloaded the update and can see it in the BIOS file list, but clicking it doesn't start the update. What steps should I check?

Download the BIOS file specifically for the MSI B550-A PRO from MSI’s support page, extract the archive, and copy the BIOS file to the root of a USB drive formatted as FAT32. Restart the computer, enter the BIOS, open M-Flash, and select the extracted BIOS file. Make sure the USB is plugged directly into a rear motherboard port. Don’t turn off or restart the system while the update is running.

The file appears in the selection list, but clicking it doesn’t do anything. I’ll try reformatting the USB as FAT32 and using a rear USB port.

Check that you downloaded the exact B550-A PRO model rather than a similar MSI board. The archive needs to be extracted before use, and the BIOS file should be placed directly on the USB drive instead of inside another folder. If M-Flash still won’t launch it, try a different, smaller USB drive and format it as FAT32 first.

Since the motherboard is from 2021, updating may be useful for newer CPUs or stability fixes, but confirm the installed BIOS version before proceeding. If M-Flash recognizes the file but refuses to continue, verify that the download completed correctly and that the file wasn’t renamed or modified. Leave the PC connected to stable power during the process.
