I signed into Chrome on my personal computer using my employer-managed Chrome profile. No work software is installed, the device has only used my home network, and I was browsing in incognito mode while connected to my own personal VPN. How likely is it that my employer or IT department recorded or received alerts about my browsing activity, and what details could they potentially see? I'm specifically asking about visibility after using the managed Chrome profile—not advice about preventing this, since I understand that incognito mode is not a privacy tool.

In practice, there is a big difference between data existing in administrative or security logs and a person actively reviewing it. IT teams generally investigate alerts, security incidents, policy violations, or formal complaints rather than routinely inspecting an employee’s personal browsing. If there was no security issue or other reason to investigate, an automated record—if one exists—may never receive human attention.
A managed Chrome profile can apply policies and may provide an organization with some account, device, sign-in, or browser-management information. The exact visibility depends on how the company configured Google Workspace and Chrome management. Simply using the profile does not automatically give IT live access to everything on your personal computer, and it is not the same as connecting to a company VPN or installing monitoring software. Incognito mainly prevents local browsing history from being retained; it does not necessarily prevent activity from being visible to an account administrator, managed services, or the websites themselves.
The personal VPN changes what your internet provider and websites see about your network location, but it does not hide activity from services tied to your work-managed account. It also does not stop Chrome or Google administration logs that may record sign-ins, timestamps, browser or device identifiers, policy status, and possibly other activity depending on the organization’s settings. Whether full browsing history is actually logged is configuration-specific, so nobody can determine that from the facts given alone.
A Chrome profile by itself is not a remote-monitoring agent. Claims that it automatically records every keystroke or mouse movement are inaccurate unless separate monitoring software, endpoint management, or similar controls were installed. Since this was a personal device without work software and was not connected to a company VPN, those particular forms of monitoring would generally not apply.
