I play everything from single-player RPGs to competitive first-person shooters, and I'd like to target 4K gaming at up to 144 FPS when possible. A 4K 144 FPS target is ambitious for a $2,000–$2,500 complete setup, especially once the monitor, keyboard, and mouse are included. You can reach high frame rates in esports and lighter games, but demanding new RPGs will usually require upscaling or reduced settings. A good 4K high-refresh monitor is worth budgeting for, but a 1440p 144–180Hz display may provide a smoother and more consistent experience across all game types.
