I'm putting together an inexpensive test bench for checking hardware I buy from local marketplaces. The planned setup is an Intel i3-12100F, a motherboard that supports both DDR4 and DDR5, one 4GB DDR4 stick, a 120GB SATA SSD, and a 700W power supply. The parts should cost around $300, and I'm also considering spending about $170 on a used power bank with a 600W output. I'd like feedback on whether this is a practical setup and what additions would make testing easier or safer. I'll be testing most components apart from motherboards and CPUs.

It depends on what you plan to buy. For GPUs, storage, monitors, peripherals, and coolers, you’ll want easy access to the connectors and enough power overhead. A 600–700W PSU is plenty for basic testing, but make sure it’s a reliable model rather than just a high wattage rating. I’d also add adapters for common display outputs, SATA and NVMe testing options, a USB installer, a power switch or jumper for the motherboard headers, and a simple set of diagnostic tools. Four gigabytes of RAM will work for basic checks, but 8GB or more will make system testing much less frustrating.
The idea is solid, but the parts list is a little narrow for testing a wide range of hardware. An open-frame setup would make swapping components much easier. Consider keeping both DDR4 and DDR5 memory available, along with a basic stock cooler, a tube of inexpensive thermal paste, and a small GPU for video output since the 12100F has no integrated graphics. A known-good SSD with an operating system installed would also save time during testing.

What other improvements would be worth adding? I’m mainly trying to test everything except motherboards and CPUs.
