With memory prices currently high, I'm considering buying a 2×8GB DDR4 kit for 16GB total and upgrading later if prices drop. Is 16GB enough for modern gaming, especially with Discord or a browser open, or would it be smarter to buy 32GB now?

16GB is a reasonable minimum for a gaming PC, especially if you use two matched 8GB sticks for dual-channel performance. Check the recommended memory for the specific games you play. Upgrading later is usually straightforward, but make sure your motherboard has compatible slots and that the added kit matches the existing memory as closely as possible.
A 2×8GB kit is still perfectly usable for gaming. Most games run well with 16GB, though you may need to close heavier apps while playing. Discord and a few browser tabs should generally be fine, but streaming video or keeping lots of tabs open can increase memory usage.
For a new build, 32GB is the more comfortable choice if you can afford it. 16GB works for most games, but newer AAA titles, simulators, mods, and multitasking can push close to the limit. Memory prices are difficult to predict, so waiting for a major drop could end up costing more if prices rise instead.
Would something like Titanfall 2 with Discord and a few Chrome tabs be okay?
