I'm planning to build a PC mainly for work, with occasional gaming sessions with friends. My budget is around €2,000 (about $2,300), and I live in Bulgaria, so local European pricing matters. I'd prefer an AMD platform with DDR5 memory. I also have the opportunity to buy a Radeon RX 7900 XT with 20GB of VRAM for €400 from someone I know. The card has been used for a while, but it is supposedly in good condition. Since my work involves running many programs at the same time rather than AI workloads, I'm unsure whether this GPU is excessive or whether the price is too good to pass up. Is it worth buying, and what kind of build would pair well with it?

A 7900 XT for €400 is an excellent deal, assuming you can verify that it works properly. It’s much faster than what you need for basic office work, but it will be great for gaming and should remain capable for years. Before paying, test it under load, check temperatures and fan noise, and inspect it for physical damage. If everything checks out, I’d definitely buy it—even if you don’t use all of its performance immediately.
The important detail is what “work” means. Running lots of browser tabs and applications at once usually benefits more from a strong modern CPU, 32GB or 64GB of RAM, and a fast NVMe SSD than from an expensive graphics card. A balanced AMD DDR5 system could use a Ryzen 7 processor, 32GB or 64GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a 1TB or 2TB NVMe drive, and a quality 750W–850W power supply. The RX 7900 XT is overkill for normal productivity, but at €400 it’s still worth taking if it passes testing; you can always use its extra performance for gaming or future workloads.
It belonged to a friend who used it for a previous build, so I’m fairly confident it isn’t a scam. I’ll still test it carefully before buying.
