I'm helping my 13-year-old cousin build his first PC using money he's saved, so we're trying to keep the build affordable and sensible. Would a Ryzen 5 3600X paired with 16–32GB of DDR4-3200 memory, a 1TB SSD, and a budget graphics card such as a GTX 1660, RTX 3050, RTX 3060, RX 6600, RX 7600, or Arc B580 be enough for 1080p gaming?
We're not aiming for extremely high frame rates, but it would be great to reach roughly 144 FPS in Fortnite on performance settings and maintain at least 60 FPS in demanding single-player games such as God of War and Cyberpunk 2077. Would this combination be suitable, or would it make more sense to use a newer processor?

The exact games matter more than the component list alone. Older and well-optimized games can run smoothly on much weaker hardware, but new releases may not maintain 60 FPS without lowering settings or using technologies such as FSR or XeSS. Checking the requirements for the games your cousin actually wants to play is the safest way to choose the graphics card.
If the budget allows, a Ryzen 5 5600 would be a better choice than the 3600X. It has stronger gaming performance and gives the graphics card more room, especially when trying to reach high FPS in Fortnite. Sixteen gigabytes of RAM is enough for this kind of build, although 32GB could help with future games and multitasking.
That setup should be perfectly usable for 1080p gaming if you’re not demanding ultra settings or extremely high FPS. Fortnite should be able to reach high frame rates with performance settings, while newer single-player games will depend heavily on the graphics card and may require medium settings or upscaling to stay above 60 FPS.
A Ryzen 5 3600X and RTX 3060 make a reasonable pairing, and an RX 6600 or RX 7600 would also be good choices. I’d avoid the GTX 1660 and RTX 3050 unless they’re significantly cheaper, since the newer AMD cards generally offer better performance for the money.
