I'm planning a gaming PC with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. My main goal is to play Deadlock at ultra settings with extremely high frame rates, although I realize this setup is probably excessive for 1080p. I'd also like the flexibility to try 1440p or 4K, so I'm looking for a powerful system that can handle modern games at ultra settings. Does this build make sense, or would you recommend changing the graphics card or processor?

The 9800X3D and 5070 Ti should work very well for 4K high-refresh gaming. If you expect to use upscaling, Nvidia is a safer pick based on current DLSS support and quality. I wouldn’t pay extra for a higher-end X3D processor unless the price difference is small, since the gaming improvement is likely modest while power and heat can increase.
The 5070 Ti is a reasonable choice if you care about Nvidia features such as DLSS, frame generation, ray tracing, RTX HDR, video upscaling, or DLDSR. Those software features can make a noticeable difference depending on the games you play. The 9070 XT is attractive on price and traditional rasterized performance, but the better option depends on whether you’ll actually use Nvidia’s features.
If this PC is mainly for gaming, especially at 1440p, the Radeon RX 9070 XT may offer better value than the RTX 5070 Ti. It can handle most games at ultra settings very well, with ray tracing and path tracing being the main areas where Nvidia has a larger advantage.
That makes sense. I’m mostly interested in high frame rates and image quality, so I’ll compare the two cards based on the games and features I actually plan to use.
For 1080p, this setup is definitely overkill unless you’re targeting extremely high refresh rates in competitive games. At 1440p, though, the combination becomes much more reasonable, and it should provide excellent performance for years. You could potentially spend less on the CPU or GPU without giving up much at 1080p.

That’s the main reason I’d lean toward Nvidia too. The comparison isn’t only about raw performance; upscaling and frame-generation quality can matter a lot when playing at 4K.
