Is a single 16GB DDR5 stick a reasonable temporary choice for AM5?

I'm preparing my first PC build and need to keep costs under control. The system will use a Ryzen 5 7500F, an ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 motherboard, a 16GB RTX 5060 Ti, and a 1440p 240Hz monitor. I mainly plan to play AAA games at 1440p along with CS2, PUBG, and similar online titles. I may also experiment with local AI, so the GPU's 16GB of VRAM and Nvidia features are useful to me.

Because DDR5 prices and availability are difficult where I live, I'm considering buying one 16GB module now and adding a second module in roughly six months. My options are a used XPG Lancer Blade 16GB DDR5-6000 CL30 stick for about $195, or a new XPG Lancer Blade 16GB DDR5-5600 CL46 stick with a warranty for around $200. There is no guarantee that I'll find an identical module later.

How practical is single-channel DDR5 on this Ryzen 5 7500F in the meantime? Should I prioritize the faster 6000 CL30 module, choose the warrantied 5600 CL46 one, or avoid this plan and look for a dual-channel alternative?

If those are genuinely the only realistic choices, I’d take the 6000 CL30 module. It has noticeably better latency and bandwidth than 5600 CL46, and a single stick is usable on AM5 while you save for another one. It still won’t perform as well as two matched sticks, especially in CPU-limited games, but the difference is generally less severe than it was with older DDR4 platforms.

Some alternative-platform suggestions may save money in other regions, but local pricing and your preference for a white build, Nvidia features, and 16GB of VRAM change the calculation. Given those priorities, the 5060 Ti and 7500F can make sense locally. Just remember that a 1440p 240Hz monitor does not mean every AAA game will reach 240 FPS, so prioritize stable frame times and enough system memory over chasing the highest RAM frequency.

The motherboard and AM5 platform make a later memory upgrade sensible, so I wouldn’t abandon the build solely because you have to start with one module. Enable EXPO if the system is stable, but don’t be surprised if two unmatched sticks need manual settings. Also check whether the used module can be tested or returned, since warranty coverage may be worth more than a small timing advantage in a market with limited availability.

Try to buy a matched 2x16GB kit if you can find one, even if it means adjusting another part of the build. Two sticks provide more memory bandwidth and usually better minimum frame rates, which matters for competitive games and a high-refresh monitor. If buying one stick is unavoidable, the 6000 CL30 model is the stronger choice, but keep the receipt and be prepared to run both modules at a lower speed if the mixed pair is unstable.

Single-channel memory is not ideal, but it should work fine for a temporary six-month setup. The bigger concern is capacity: 16GB can be enough for many games, but modern AAA titles plus background applications may cause stutter or force you to close things. If possible, buy 32GB now; otherwise plan to upgrade as soon as you can and avoid assuming the second module will run at its advertised speed if it is not an exact match.

I can’t afford an X3D processor right now, so the 7500F is the practical option. The goal is to add a second 16GB module later rather than stay with one stick permanently.
