I recently built a PC with an RX 6600, expecting it to handle my games well. I then upgraded to a 27-inch 1440p monitor, and the card is struggling more than I expected. I'm considering replacing it with an RTX 3080, probably used. Is the 3080 still a worthwhile choice for 1440p, or would I be better off waiting for a newer card?

The RTX 3080 is still a strong 1440p card and should run most games well, especially with sensible settings and DLSS. A used one can be a good deal, but buying one new usually doesn’t make much sense when a newer card such as the RTX 4070 offers similar performance, more VRAM, and better efficiency.
The RTX 3080 remains relevant for 1440p gaming, but check the used card carefully. Its main drawbacks are high power consumption, heat, and the possibility that it has been heavily used for mining or long gaming sessions. Make sure the temperatures, fans, ports, and overall condition are good, and compare its price against newer, more efficient cards before buying.
A 3080 Ti can even handle 4K at around 80–100 FPS in many games with high or maximum settings, depending on the title. At 1440p, DLSS can provide a noticeable performance boost with only a small visual difference, especially using the Quality mode.
The 3080 Ti still performs very well at 1440p. With ray tracing disabled and DLSS enabled, many newer games can run somewhere between 75 and 165 FPS depending on optimization and settings. Some titles can go even higher with frame generation, although that feature depends on the game and software support.
That performance is better than I expected from a card of that generation.
Since I’m buying used, would you wait another six months to a year for a newer 40-series card, or just get the 3080 now and enjoy the upgrade?
