I'm in Australia and putting together a new PC using some parts from my previous system. The new build will use a Ryzen 7 9700X and target high-to-ultra settings at 1440p.
I originally planned to buy an RX 9070 XT, but current pricing is around 1,000 AUD (about 700 USD). I've now found a used ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4070 Ti Super for 650 AUD (about 455 USD, including shipping). It's roughly a year old.
The 9070 XT is faster overall and competes with newer high-end cards, but the 4070 Ti Super still seems reasonably close in some games. I also don't expect to play many demanding AAA titles. Buying the cheaper card would leave more money for the CPU and possibly a new motherboard.
Would choosing the used 4070 Ti Super be a mistake, or is it the better value at this price? How well does it handle 1440p gaming today, and should I be concerned about its longevity, 16 GB of VRAM, ray tracing, or upscaling support?

The performance gap between the 4070 Ti Super and 9070 XT isn’t large enough to justify spending another 350 AUD in this situation. The Nvidia card also gives you strong ray tracing and DLSS support, while 16 GB of VRAM is still a reasonable amount for 1440p.
Another option is the standard RX 9070. It is generally slower than the XT by around 10 percent but can cost roughly 100 AUD less, so it may be worth checking local prices. Still, the used 4070 Ti Super is difficult to beat at 650 AUD.
I currently use a 9070 XT, but I’d still take the 4070 Ti Super at that price. It’s a very good 1440p card and should remain capable for years, especially if you aren’t focused on the most demanding new AAA releases.
The deal sounds excellent as long as the seller and card check out. Test it under load, confirm the model and serial details, and make sure there are no overheating, artifacting, or unusual noise issues. If you plan to use Linux, AMD may be the more convenient choice because Nvidia support can be less straightforward.
At 650 AUD, the 4070 Ti Super is probably the better value by a wide margin. It should handle high or ultra 1440p gaming very well, and the money saved can improve the rest of the build. The main concern is the card being used, so verify that it’s genuine, working properly, and has whatever warranty remains.
