I'm building a new PC around a Ryzen 9 9950X3D and found a used Radeon RX 7900 XT locally for €590. I'll use the system for gaming as well as development in Unreal Engine and Unity. Since I'm not planning to use GPU rendering software, I don't think CUDA is essential, but I'm open to alternatives. A Radeon RX 9070 XT costs about €800 new in my area, and there aren't any used listings, so I'm trying to decide whether the 7900 XT is a good value or whether it's worth increasing my budget.

The RX 7900 XT is still a strong gaming card, and its 20GB of VRAM should help it remain useful for several years. It can perform slightly ahead of the RX 9070 in some games and occasionally gets close to the 9070 XT. Its main drawbacks are higher power consumption and noticeably weaker ray-tracing performance. At €590, it makes sense if it’s clearly cheaper than a newer RX 9070; otherwise, the newer card may be worth considering for efficiency and features.
For gaming and development in Unreal Engine or Unity, the 7900 XT remains a solid option, especially if you don’t rely on CUDA-specific tools. The value is strongest when buying used at a substantial discount. A used RTX 4070 Ti around €700 may offer better ray tracing and broader software support, but it has less VRAM and is not automatically a better overall deal.
If an RX 9070 XT were available near the same price, that would generally be the better long-term choice. However, with local prices around €800 new and no used options, the 7900 XT at €590 is much more reasonable. Compare its condition and warranty with other local listings, but you don’t necessarily need to stretch your budget.
