I'm putting together a new PC around a Ryzen 9 9950X3D and found a used Radeon RX 7900 XT locally for €590. I'd use the system for gaming as well as development in Unreal Engine and Unity. I don't expect to need CUDA because I'm not planning to use GPU-based 3D rendering software, but I'm open to other recommendations. For comparison, an RX 9070 XT costs about €800 new in my area, and used listings are basically unavailable. Is the 7900 XT a good deal at €590, or would it make more sense to save for a newer card?

The newer RX 9070 XT would be the better long-term option if it were close to the same price, but €800 versus €590 is a significant jump. Unless you particularly care about ray tracing, lower power use, or newer-generation features, the used 7900 XT remains a reasonable buy at this price.
If you don’t need CUDA, there’s no obvious reason to avoid the 7900 XT for Unreal or Unity work. I’d compare the €590 used price against current local prices, check the card’s condition and warranty, and only move up if the newer model’s extra features or efficiency justify the additional cost.
The RX 7900 XT is still a strong card, especially because its 20GB of VRAM should help it age well. It can perform slightly ahead of the RX 9070 in traditional rendering and may occasionally get close to the 9070 XT. The trade-offs are higher power consumption and weaker ray-tracing performance. At €590, it makes sense if it’s noticeably cheaper than a newer RX 9070.
