I'm trying to perform my first clean installation of Windows 11. I bought an 8GB USB drive because I read that it was large enough, but the ISO I downloaded is 7.88GB and Rufus says the image is too large for the selected drive. I can't easily afford a larger USB stick where I live. Is there another way to create the installer, or an alternative I can use with this drive?

Another possibility is using an older, still-supported Windows 11 release with a smaller official ISO, but avoid going too far back because installation and update support can become a problem. You’ll still need to verify that the download is genuine and obtain later updates afterward.
Formatting the drive as NTFS alone probably won’t solve the capacity issue—the main problem is that the ISO is larger than the drive’s actual usable space. If you use a different tool or version, check that the resulting USB will still boot on your computer.
An 8GB drive doesn’t provide a full 8GB of usable space, so a 7.88GB ISO usually won’t fit once formatting and filesystem overhead are taken into account. A 16GB drive is the safest option, but you may be able to borrow one. Don’t modify or shrink the ISO unless you know exactly what you’re doing.
Try Microsoft’s official Media Creation Tool instead of loading the ISO manually into Rufus. It creates the installation media directly and may fit differently than the full ISO. Make sure the USB contains nothing important, since the process will erase it.
