I'm currently using an RTX 3060 Ti with a Ryzen 5 5500X3D and am considering a GPU upgrade. I mainly play single-player open-world games and would like a stable 60 FPS, ideally at 1440p or possibly 4K. Is an RTX 3080 Ti still a good choice today, or would an AMD card be better? I'm in the UK and my maximum budget is around £600.

For your target of stable 60 FPS in single-player games, the 3080 Ti makes the most sense as a 1440p card and a compromise 4K card. If you mostly want 1440p, it’s a worthwhile upgrade from the 3060 Ti. If 4K is the priority, spend the full budget on the newest AMD card you can find rather than buying an older 3080 Ti unless the used price is especially good.
The 3080 Ti is still a strong 1440p card and would be a big upgrade from your 3060 Ti. At high settings, it should handle most games very well, but newer demanding titles may require some settings adjustments. It can run 4K at around 60 FPS in many games with DLSS and optimized settings, but it is no longer an ideal native 4K card.
The main concern with the 3080 Ti isn’t its raw performance; it’s the 12 GB of VRAM. That can become limiting in newer 4K games, especially with ultra textures, ray tracing, or large open worlds. It also runs hot and uses quite a lot of power. For 1440p, though, it’s still a very capable choice.
At 4K you may need DLSS Quality or Balanced and reduced texture settings in some newer releases. The card can still work, but you shouldn’t expect to max out every game.
At roughly £600, I’d compare the 3080 Ti against newer cards such as the RX 9070, RX 9070 XT, or RX 7900 XT, depending on local pricing. A newer AMD card with more VRAM will generally be a better long-term 1440p/4K purchase, while the 3080 Ti gives you DLSS and stronger ray-tracing support. If you’re buying used, make sure the price reflects its age, power draw, and limited warranty.
I’d lean toward a newer AMD card if you can find one within budget. The extra VRAM should help with future games, particularly if 4K is the goal.
I’ve used a regular RTX 3080 at 4K and it remains playable at 60 FPS with DLSS Balanced in some games. The 3080 Ti has a little more performance, so it can definitely manage 4K if you’re comfortable tuning settings.
