I'm building my first desktop after gaming on an RTX 3060 laptop since 2021. I want a high-end system for 1440p Ultra gaming, with the option to move to 4K later, plus some rendering work. I've already bought an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Gigabyte RTX 5080 Gaming OC 16GB, 32GB of G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000 CL36, a Samsung 990 PRO 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, six Lian Li SL Infinity Wireless Reverse Blade 120mm fans, and four regular Lian Li SL Infinity Wireless 120mm fans. I still need to purchase the Lian Li O11 Compact case, Lian Li EDGE 850W Gold PSU, MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard, and Lian Li HydroShift II 360 CL ARGB cooler. The parts I have already cost about £2,000. Are these components fully compatible, particularly the motherboard, memory, graphics card, cooler, case, and fan setup? Is an ATX 3.x 850W power supply sufficient for the RTX 5080 Gaming OC and 9800X3D, or would 1000W be worthwhile for reliability and future upgrades? I'd prefer not to spend more without a practical benefit, but this is intended to be a good-looking showcase build. Since this is my first PC build, I'd also appreciate any advice that could help me avoid installation or setup mistakes.

Pay close attention to the fan wiring and controller situation. Eleven wireless Lian Li fans may need the appropriate hub or USB expansion accessory, depending on which controller versions are included. Confirm that the case, radiator, and GPU dimensions work together, and check whether the 360mm cooler fits in the intended radiator position with enough clearance for the motherboard and memory. Update the motherboard firmware if necessary before tuning the CPU, enable EXPO for the DDR5 kit, and use the motherboard manual for the correct fan, pump, and front-panel connections.
A quality ATX 3.x 850W PSU should be sufficient for a 5080 and 9800X3D, assuming the graphics card’s power connector is installed correctly and the PSU has the proper native cable. A 1000W model is a reasonable upgrade if it costs only a little more, mainly for extra headroom and future GPU upgrades, but it isn’t required for this hardware. Don’t choose a larger unit solely because of efficiency claims; quality, protections, and the correct ATX standard matter more than the wattage number.
The 850W unit is adequate if it is a reputable ATX 3.x model and the system is not heavily overclocked. The 5080 is not in the same power class as the most extreme flagship cards, so 1000W is optional rather than essential. Since the listed 1000W version is only modestly more expensive locally, buying it could still be sensible for extra headroom, but I would not delay the build or replace other components just to reach that wattage.
The parts should work together, but several choices carry a premium for branding and appearance rather than noticeably better performance. The 990 PRO is a good SSD, though drives such as the WD SN850X can offer similar or better real-world performance for less. The same applies to the G.Skill memory and Lian Li fans: they’re perfectly valid choices, especially for a showcase build, but cheaper DDR5-6000 kits and fans can deliver almost the same performance. The motherboard is also more expensive than necessary unless you specifically need its extra connectivity or features; a good B850 board may be enough. Check local pricing and availability before changing anything, since regional taxes and stock can make the usual alternatives poor value.
That makes sense. Availability where I live is limited and imported parts are heavily taxed, so I chose some of these because they were actually obtainable locally. I’ll compare alternatives, but the appearance of the build is also important to me.

The main practical argument for 1000W is upgrade flexibility. Efficiency differences between comparable 850W and 1000W units are usually small, so I’d choose based on price, warranty, build quality, and available connectors.
