Is buying DDR5-6600 and running it at 6400 a good idea for AM5?

I'm building a relatively futureproof PC and want DDR5-6400 CL32 memory, but the Corsair Dominator Titanium RGB kit I'm considering is hard to find. The same memory appears to be available as a DDR5-6600 kit, sometimes for less money. Would it make sense to buy the 6600 kit and manually configure it to run at 6400 MT/s? I'm mainly wondering whether the lower speed should work reliably with a 1:1 UCLK ratio on a newer AMD platform, or whether I should hold out for a kit specifically rated at 6400 CL32.

The main limitation is the processor’s memory controller, not just the RAM kit. On AM5, 6000 MT/s is often the easy plug-and-play point, while 6400 can work but depends on the CPU, motherboard, BIOS, and number of DIMMs. A 1:1 UCLK at 3200 MHz isn’t guaranteed, so check that the system is actually running synchronously after configuring it.

Don’t assume the advertised 6600 profile will automatically translate perfectly to 6400. You might need to adjust secondary timings or settle for a slightly different configuration if the system is unstable. In practice, a stable 6000–6400 setup with a synchronized fabric or UCLK is preferable to chasing a higher memory speed that forces a divider.

If the 6600 kit is cheaper and uses similar memory chips and timings, I’d choose that and tune it down. Just compare the full specifications, including primary timings, voltage, capacity, and whether the kit appears on your motherboard’s memory support list. The 6400 label alone doesn’t guarantee better results.
