I'm considering transitioning into embedded systems development because I enjoy both electronics and software engineering, especially hardware-level work and low-level programming. I'd like to understand the current job market and long-term career growth compared with higher-level software roles. For someone starting today, which skills should be prioritized—C or C++, Rust, RTOS concepts, microcontrollers, or embedded Linux? Is switching into the field worthwhile, and what challenges should beginners expect?

Embedded systems are likely to remain important because so much of modern technology depends on electronic devices and software running close to the hardware. The field can be a solid long-term direction if you genuinely enjoy combining programming with electronics, though choosing a relevant computer engineering path could also be a useful way to build the necessary foundation.
