Windows 11 26H2 is being offered as an optional update, and I'm not sure whether I should install it right away. I've heard that major Windows updates can sometimes introduce bugs, but I also want to avoid missing important security fixes. If I'm currently running Windows 11 25H2, is it safe to wait, and how long would it be reasonable to delay the upgrade?

If you’re already on 25H2 and keeping up with its regular updates, you can safely wait. Your current version should continue receiving security updates for a while, although you’ll eventually need to move to 26H2 when support for 25H2 ends. If you’re on 24H2 or older, upgrading sooner would be the better choice.
26H2 adds features such as expanded Copilot functionality and some taskbar and Start menu changes. It doesn’t seem urgent if your current version is fully patched, so waiting a few weeks for early issues to surface is a reasonable approach. Just don’t postpone it indefinitely, since security support for older versions eventually ends.
There’s a difference between regular monthly security updates and a feature-version upgrade. You should continue installing the normal security patches even if you delay 26H2. The upgrade itself may not be immediately required, but staying on an unsupported version later would mean missing important fixes.
The upgrade appears to be largely an enablement package, meaning much of the underlying code may already be present through previous updates. It should install fairly quickly, and several systems have updated without problems. Still, make sure your important files are backed up before installing any major update.

That makes sense. I’ll keep 25H2 updated and wait a little while before installing 26H2, while keeping an eye on when support for my current version ends.
