I bought a used PC case that needs a thorough cleaning. Since there are no components installed inside, is it safe to use a vacuum to remove the dust? Should I take the fans out or stop them from spinning? I'd also appreciate general advice for cleaning the case without scratching it or damaging anything.

Since the case is empty, unplugging it isn’t necessary, but avoid metal vacuum nozzles that could scratch the finish. A small handheld vacuum with a soft brush attachment is a practical option. Wipe the panels afterward with a lightly damp microfiber cloth, and let everything dry completely before installing hardware.
Compressed air is the usual choice for cleaning PC cases. Take the case somewhere easy to clean, blow dust out through the vents, and keep any fans from spinning while you do it. A hand-operated air blower can work too.
A hair dryer can be risky because many models use heat and may create static. If you use one at all, use only a cool, low-power setting—but compressed air or a proper air blower is safer.
A vacuum can work, especially with the case empty, but blowing the dust out is usually more effective. If you vacuum near fans, hold the blades still or disconnect the fans so they don’t spin freely. Use a soft brush or a non-scratching attachment.
Brush attachments can sometimes generate static, so it’s best not to press them against installed electronics. That concern is much less important while the case is completely empty.
