I currently game at 1440p and 240 Hz with an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, mostly playing CPU-heavy titles. I'm considering upgrading my i5-14400F to either an i5-14600K or an i7-14700K, but I want to keep my current LGA1700 motherboard. Would either upgrade provide a meaningful improvement, or is the i5-14400F still fast enough for my setup?

I’d skip both same-platform upgrades unless you find a 14600K or 14700K at a very good used price. Save the money for a future platform upgrade instead, especially since moving to a newer socket would give you a more substantial performance jump rather than a relatively small improvement.
Before upgrading, check which component is actually hitting full utilization in the games you play. The 14400F is still a capable gaming CPU, and 1440p usually shifts more of the workload onto the GPU. Unless you’re consistently CPU-limited while targeting very high frame rates, you may not notice much of a difference.
Benchmarks generally show the 14600K gaining roughly 0–25% depending on the game, with some titles showing nearly no difference at 1440p. The biggest improvement may be in 1% lows rather than average FPS, but paying around $240 or more for that kind of upgrade is difficult to justify from a 14400F.
The 14600K probably isn’t worth the cost for gaming alone. The 14700K could be faster in some CPU-heavy games, but the improvement depends heavily on the title and the price you can get it for. At 1440p, your graphics card will often be the limiting factor anyway.
That makes sense. I was mainly worried about CPU limitations in the games where my frame rate and 1% lows dip.
