Is My PC Too Outdated to Game On?

I have a PC with 16GB of RAM and an RTX 2060, but it still uses an Intel Core i3-2120, which is a major bottleneck. I don't have much money to spend on upgrades, so am I completely stuck, or can this system still handle some games?

The best upgrade depends on your motherboard model. Check which processors it supports before buying anything, and compare several used options—the cheapest compatible four-core, eight-thread chip is probably the most sensible temporary upgrade.

You’re not doomed, but the processor is very old and will hold the RTX 2060 back badly in newer games. Older titles should still be playable, including games around the era of The Witcher 3, as long as you keep expectations reasonable.

If your motherboard supports it, look for a used Core i7-3770, i7-3770K, or a compatible Xeon such as an E3-1240 v2 or E3-1275 v2. Any of those would be a huge improvement over the i3-2120, and a cheap used processor could be worthwhile if you can find one for roughly the price of a meal.
