I'm choosing between the 8GB and 16GB versions of the RX 9060 XT. I mainly plan to play at 1080p, so I'm wondering whether the extra €100 is worthwhile or if the 8GB model will be sufficient. I'd like the card to remain useful for newer games over the next few years, but I also don't want to overspend on memory I won't use.

For this particular GPU, I’d pay the extra €100 for 16GB. The 9060 XT is powerful enough that some newer games may run into the 8GB limit before the GPU itself runs out of performance. When that happens, you can get inconsistent frame rates and stuttering rather than simply lower average FPS. Double the VRAM for €100 is reasonable, especially if you plan to keep the card for several years.
If €100 would stretch your budget, 8GB is still usable for 1080p. Most games will run fine if you avoid ultra texture settings, ray tracing, and other particularly demanding options. It can even handle some 1440p gaming with sensible settings. However, if you can comfortably afford the difference, 16GB is the safer long-term purchase.
Resolution isn’t the only factor. Texture quality and certain game features can consume a lot of VRAM even at 1080p, so the extra memory is useful beyond just playing at a higher resolution.
I’d choose based on the games you actually play. Older competitive games and well-optimized titles are unlikely to need more than 8GB, while newer AAA games are increasingly able to exceed that at high settings. Since both cards have the same GPU performance and the price difference buys twice the memory, the 16GB model offers better value unless you’re working with a very strict budget.
That’s the main distinction: 8GB can still work at 1080p, but the 16GB version gives you more room for high textures and future releases without needing to replace the card early.
