Is the Kingston NV3 2TB a worthwhile upgrade over a 1TB SSD?

I'm shopping for an SSD and found the 2TB Kingston NV3 priced close to some 1TB models. I'm mainly wondering whether the NV3's compromises are worth accepting in exchange for doubling the storage. How does it hold up for gaming and heavier workloads, and are there better options around the same price?

It’s a budget, DRAM-less Gen 4 drive, and the hardware can vary between versions, so I wouldn’t describe it as an especially premium or consistently high-end SSD. It should work fine for normal desktop use and games, but sustained writes and demanding workloads are where better drives can pull ahead. Compare similarly priced 2TB models from other brands before buying, especially if the price difference is small.

Are there any specific alternatives that tend to be better choices at roughly the same price?

For a game library, the extra capacity may matter more than the performance difference, but I’d still check reviews of the exact model and current pricing.

For gaming, the NV3 should be perfectly adequate. Game loading times usually won’t differ much between PCIe generations, so a Gen 4 or even Gen 3 drive can feel nearly identical in everyday use. If the 2TB capacity is useful and the price is good, it’s a reasonable budget choice.

Where might it fall short—large file transfers, video editing, or another heavier workload?
