Is the MSI PRO B850-S a Good Match for a Radeon RX 9070 XT?

I originally built my PC on a budget and have been upgrading it over time. The current system includes a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 9070 XT, Ryzen 5 9600X, 32GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, a 750W power supply, an MSI PRO B850-S motherboard, a Cooler Master 240mm liquid CPU cooler, and a Montech XR case. I'm concerned that the motherboard might be holding back the rest of the system because it's considered a lower-end model. Will it affect gaming performance with the 9070 XT? I'm also considering upgrading to an X3D processor within the next year, so would I need to replace the motherboard for that upgrade, or should this board be sufficient?

The motherboard should not meaningfully affect your 9070 XT’s performance. Even if the graphics card were operating through a PCIe 4.0 connection instead of PCIe 5.0, the real-world difference would be extremely small and generally difficult to notice. Also, the 9070 XT itself uses a PCIe 4.0 interface, so there’s no practical concern here.

I wasn’t sure whether the board supported PCIe 5.0, but it sounds like that doesn’t really matter for this graphics card anyway.

That motherboard is not so weak that it would hold back your processor or graphics card. Its power delivery and heatsinks are adequate for current Ryzen chips, including a future X3D upgrade. A 9600X or a comparable X3D processor should run at full performance without requiring a motherboard replacement. Unless you need a specific feature the board lacks, you can keep it and upgrade only the CPU later.
