I'm building a new gaming PC for 4K and originally planned to buy an RTX 5070 Ti for DLSS, ray tracing, and frame generation. However, graphics card prices suddenly jumped in my country, so I picked up an ASRock Radeon 9070 XT Challenger for $750 instead. The RTX 5070 Ti was selling for around $1,270.
I haven't used an AMD card in years, and I've seen some reports about driver and software issues, but the two cards seem fairly close in traditional gaming performance. Since this PC is for gaming only, was choosing the 9070 XT the sensible move?

The main reasons to choose the 5070 Ti would be specific Nvidia features such as CUDA, stronger ray tracing, or a particular game where DLSS and multi-frame generation make a major difference. If none of those are important to you, paying an extra $520 for it is hard to justify.
AMD’s upscaling has improved a lot, although Nvidia still generally has the edge in image quality and ray tracing. AMD’s frame generation is less convincing right now too, but with a high-end card at 4K, I wouldn’t consider frame generation essential in most games. The price gap makes the 9070 XT the clear practical choice.
That’s a sensible purchase. Just spend a little time checking which driver version and undervolt settings work well with your specific card. The rest of your system is more than capable, and the 9070 XT should pair very well with the 9800X3D for 4K gaming.
For gaming alone, absolutely. At those prices, the 9070 XT is much better value, especially since the performance difference in ordinary rasterized games is relatively small. You also get the same amount of VRAM and can put the money you saved toward games, storage, or a future upgrade.
