I'm upgrading from an RX 6800 XT and found a new ASRock RX 9070 for about $720. The RX 9070 XT costs roughly $830 where I live, so the difference is around $110. I have an 850W power supply, a Ryzen 5 7600X, 32GB of DDR5-5600, and about 2TB of SSD storage. I mainly play at 1440p, including Marvel Rivals and demanding single-player games such as Baldur's Gate 3, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Cyberpunk 2077. Is the XT's extra performance worth the additional cost, or would the RX 9070 be the better value?

Your 850W PSU should be sufficient for the XT with a Ryzen 5 7600X, assuming it’s a decent-quality unit. Since you tend to keep GPUs for several years, spending the extra $110 could make sense for longevity and resale value. If you were replacing the card every year or two, the regular 9070 would be the more sensible choice.
For 1440p, I’d lean toward the RX 9070 unless you regularly play very demanding games or want to maximize settings and frame rates. Most games will use similar settings on both cards, but in something like Cyberpunk, the extra performance can be enough to make a higher setting or smoother target worthwhile. The RX 9070 also tends to have better efficiency and overclocking headroom.
For your particular setup and games, I’d probably buy the RX 9070 and put the $110 toward a future CPU upgrade. The 7600X is still perfectly capable at 1440p, though, and a faster processor won’t necessarily improve performance much in GPU-heavy single-player games. Choose the XT if you want the highest settings now; choose the 9070 if value, efficiency, and similar real-world gameplay matter more.
The RX 9070 XT is usually around 10–15% faster, while using noticeably more power. At 1440p, that often means something like 60 FPS versus 66–69 FPS, so the overall experience can feel very similar. At your prices, the cost per frame is roughly comparable, but I wouldn’t call the XT an essential upgrade.
I’ve kept my GTX 1660 for about five years and only moved to the 6800 XT recently, so I usually keep cards for a long time. Resale value is part of my decision too, since I’d like the next upgrade to be easier to fund.
