I'm putting together a gaming PC on a tight budget and am currently considering a Radeon 9070, 16GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory as a single stick for now, and an Asus Prime B850M-K motherboard. I'm deciding between the Ryzen 5 7500F at $135.18 and the Ryzen 5 7500X3D at $232.06. Is the roughly $100 price difference worthwhile for gaming performance? I'll mostly play competitive games at 1440p, along with some AAA titles, and I'm wondering whether the X3D chip's extra cache helps offset the performance loss from running memory in single-channel mode.

It depends heavily on the games and resolution. At 4K in many AAA games, the graphics card is usually the limit and the difference between these CPUs may be small. At 1440p competitive settings, though, you’re more likely to notice the X3D chip, particularly if you’re targeting very high refresh rates.
For a gaming-focused build, I’d lean toward the 7500X3D if the additional cost doesn’t force you to compromise on more important parts. Just keep in mind that replacing the single 16GB stick with a matched dual-channel kit should still be a priority, since single-channel memory can hurt overall performance and consistency.
The 7500X3D is less dependent on extremely fast memory, so it should lose less performance from your temporary single-stick setup. If you can fit it into the budget, the extra cache can make the X3D model the better gaming choice, especially for competitive games where higher frame rates and better lows matter.
