I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 3500X on a B450M Gaming motherboard with an RX 7700 XT and 16GB of DDR4 memory. My main use is 1080p gaming, especially games like Battlefield 6 and ARC Raiders, but I also occasionally use Photoshop, Blender, and Premiere for creative work. My upgrade budget is about $200, and moving to AM5 isn't practical because I'd also need to buy new memory. Is the Ryzen 7 5700X a worthwhile match for my graphics card, or would another AM4 processor be a better choice?

If gaming is overwhelmingly your priority, an AM4 X3D processor such as the 5500X3D can deliver a noticeable improvement in CPU-limited games. However, the 5700X is the more balanced choice for someone who also uses Photoshop, Blender, and Premiere. X3D cache is most useful in games and generally doesn’t provide the same benefit in production workloads.
Before buying anything, update the B450 motherboard to a BIOS version that supports the chosen processor. Enabling PBO afterward may provide a small performance boost, and upgrading from 16GB to 32GB of RAM would be useful for Blender, Premiere, and heavier multitasking when your budget allows.
A Ryzen 5 5600 is also worth considering if you want to spend less. It can still pair well with an RX 7700 XT at 1080p, especially if you play with higher settings or aren’t targeting extremely high refresh rates. The 5700X makes more sense if your creative work benefits from additional cores.
The Ryzen 7 5700X would be a solid upgrade from the 3500X. The extra cores should help with Premiere, Blender, and multitasking, while the newer Zen 3 architecture should improve gaming performance too. Make sure your motherboard has a recent BIOS installed, and plan on using a decent tower cooler since the 5700X may not include one.
A B550 motherboard would technically give the RX 7700 XT PCIe 4.0 support, but replacing the motherboard just for that is unlikely to be the best use of your budget. Keep the B450 board if it supports the CPU and has the features you need; the processor upgrade will matter much more.
